This unusual complex of impressive dimensions, designed by Professor Ilmari Lahdelma in 2008 on the territory of modern port with Kantasatama approached by the oldest icebreaker-museum "Tarmo" (1907), in its external appearance is similar to the menacing gigantic shaft. The length of the building, which is located on the roof deck with panoramic views of the city and the sea is 300 m and a height of 30 m.

The museum complex combines the Maritime Museum of Finland, Museum of Kymenlaakso and Information Centre Vellamo. Inside the rooms, decorated with oak and striking color palette - from light green and orange to deep blue, exhibited a variety of ships, boats, port cargo cranes, etc. Sparkling facade in the form of sea reflections from glass and metal gives the whole ensemble a special personality.

The Information Center is stored printed publications, electronic books and magazines. Maritime Museum of Finland presents its major exhibition on the history and development of navigation in northern waters. The Museum of Kymenlaakso visitors get acquainted with the material and spiritual heritage of the city and region of Kymenlaakso, and the history of marine protection.
