Chettikulangara Devi Temple, or as it is sometimes called Chettikulangara Sri Bhagavathi, located in the southern Indian state of Kerala in Alappuzha district, near the city of Mavelikkara and Kayamkulam. In appearance it is very modest, but is famous for its colorful festivals that are held for almost the entire year.
The temple is very old - its history began more than a thousand years ago. Currently there are several versions of its appearance. According to one of the most common, a few centuries ago the local population went for the annual festival, which took place in the temple Koypallikarazhma that was located a few kilometers from Chettikulangary. But there visitors ridiculed the local inhabitants. Injured visitors have decided that they will build in retaliation to his own village temple, and went for a blessing of the Goddess in Kodungallur town where 12 days sang bhajan - special spiritual practices to satisfy the Goddess. And to him in a dream appeared Devi and agreed to go with them Chettikulangar. So overjoyed pilgrims returned home and immediately started to build a new church. Later, many of the villagers claimed that they had seen in the temple and its surroundings itself Devi in the form of an old woman.
The main feature of the temple Chettikulangara is that worship therein to several deities. So, in the morning the Goddess appears as a Maha Saraswati, at noon - as Maha Lakshmi, and in the evening - Sri Durga and Bhadrakali. However, the main shrine of the temple, located in the central hall, called Chettikulangara Amma.
The temple is under the control of the Board of Travancore Devasvom (in Sanskrit - "property of the Lord"), supporting Hindu religious buildings of the country, and is one of the richest temples.
