Anyone who has ever been in Gurzuf, familiar with the legend of Adalar. It is not surprising, because these rocks are in Gurzuf bay, offshore only two hundred and fifty meters. Among the locals, these rocks are called "twins". The word "Adalary" - the Turkish origin, translated into Russian as "island". In ancient times, the cliff is the site of the sea coast, but later isthmus sank into the water and the shore they were separated.
Guides on the Crimea and in geography textbooks describe rocks as follows: the white cliffs - two of the same island, they reach a diameter of about thirty meters, about forty meters away there among the rocks. But this description is dry, short and uninteresting. Many consider them just rocks, which have become a haven for sea birds or unusual background in the photographs of curious tourists. In fact it is more than just a rock. It is a legend, created by nature, and then she herself immortalized in the history of rock.
Adalary - is a dream for all divers. Frankly, the researchers are interested in the depth of water is not only and not so much fish that swims at a depth close to the rocks in huge quantities. The puzzle is that the rocks are based on the seabed, and the bottom - it's just a storehouse of interesting finds. First of all, it is fragments of pottery, relating to XII-XVI centuries. Once on the site we were anchored ships loaded with different goods. Then the rock was even coast, the islands and not as it is now. Some divers are lucky and they are here today, and the most interesting evidence of the past. There were those among them who are raised out of the water completely preserved amphora.
At the beginning of the last century there was a project that planned to join the cable car cliff Dzhenevez-Kai and rock-twins. In the depths of Dzhenevez Kaya hacked for this purpose a special tunnel. But the plan did not materialize, the cable car was only a draft.
There are different traditions and legends associated with these places. The most ancient in origin and unrealistic essentially tells of Peter and George, twin brothers. Another tells the story of the restaurant "Venice", and it is a true story. Allegedly, once there was a restaurant on the rocks, but it collapsed after an earthquake. For tourists visiting Gursuf these stories, of course, it is very interesting. After all, any stone footpath keep prying secrets of the past years.
