Jesus Basilica is located near the city of Panaji, the capital of Goa. The church is one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in India since the Jesuits. It kept the relics of St. Francis Xavier, who was regarded as a kind of patron saint of Goa. He was in Goa in 1542 and stayed there for only 4 months, but has since returned several times to the Indian state. And even after his death, he was buried in China, two years later his remains were reburied in Goa, according to his will.

Construction of the church began in 1594 and lasted until 1605, when it was consecrated.

The front part of the church is a mixture of Ionic, Corinthian and Doric architectural traditions. The walls located three rows of windows, one above the other. Inside, as expected, it is the main altar, the sacristy and choir, supported by a row of columns. In the back part there is a bell tower and two chapels. The chapel, which is a silver coffin with the remains of the saint, decorated with elaborate wood carvings and paintings of Francis Xavier. His tomb, the construction of which took a decade, finished with Florentine marble of various colors.

Now Jesus Basilica has the status of cultural heritage by UNESCO and a masterpiece of world architecture, as well as a place of pilgrimage for both Christians and members of other religions. Especially of interest to the temple it rises at a time when the incorrupt relics of St. Francis Xavier put up for worship that takes place once every 10 years. The last time this event was held in 2004. It is believed that the remains of the saint has a healing power.
