Electricity Museum is located on the site of the old Funchal Power Plant, which in 1989 was decommissioned. The grand opening of the museum of electricity "Casa da Luz" ("House of Light") on November 24, 1997, and was dedicated to the 100th anniversary since the advent of electricity in Madeira. Power Funchal was built in 1897 and was the first electricity company on the island.
Electricity Museum is considered one of the most interesting museums in Funchal, because among the exhibits, visitors can see rare machines and mechanisms, which are more than fifty years old, and some more than a century . The museum is divided into four rooms, which are called: Lights of the city of Funchal, the age of electricity, the energy source of the island of Madeira and the Interactive Science and Technology Hall .
