Lewis Glucksmann Gallery - an art gallery and cultural and educational center in the city of Cork. The gallery is located on the campus of University College Cork, and just a 10-minute walk from the city center on Western Road.
Lewis Glucksmann Gallery was opened to the public October 14, 2004. The gallery was designed by the talented Irish architects Sheila O'Donnell and John Twomey, and is a modern three-storey building area of 2000 square meters with well-equipped exhibition space, art workshops and lecture halls. There is also a cozy restaurant and a shop.
In 2005, Lewis Glucksmann Gallery was named the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland "the best public building in Ireland." Gallery also received such prestigious awards as the British «Civic Trust Awards» Award and the Royal Institute of British Architects, and nominated for the Stirling. The name of the gallery was in honor of his patron Lewis Glucksmann - a successful American financier and philanthropist, generously supported by various cultural and educational projects in Ireland.
The collection of the gallery - a superb collection of paintings, prints, photographs, sculptures and other art (visual) art. Most of the collection belongs to the contemporary Irish art.
In addition to the permanent exhibition in the gallery of Lewis Glucksmann regularly hosts temporary exhibitions and thematic lectures and workshops, film screenings and other cultural events. There is also a special program for students whose main goal is to expand the horizons of the younger generation and to orient it to receive higher education in the future.
