Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the Bukovina land has a long history that goes back more than two centuries. The first steps to creating a society were made in the 80s. 18 Art. Turkul gave the land and donated the small amount of money for the construction of the Greek-Catholic Church. In June 1821, local Greek Catholics solemnly entered into a new church. Otehovsky (today you can see his autograph on the icon of Jesus Christ). Shortly thereafter, the temple was enriched with an icon of Christ, for which the donor and the founder of the Church of F. Turkul in 1879 in Cracow produced gold vestments.

By Chernivtsi temple more than once on his visit Greek-Catholic bishops. In particular, in 1880 it visited the Metropolitan Joseph (Sembratovych), and in 1900 - Andrey (Sheptytsky), Bishop of Stanislavsky. Standing for more than a century, the church was substantially rebuilt in the Empire style. The author of the project was well-known scholar and politician Vladimir Zalozetsky. In 1937, the temple was named the Assumption of Mary. In 1946, when the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church was officially liquidated, the Cathedral of the Assumption was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church. And in 1961 it was closed. At the close of the temple of the UGCC believers were able to move the iconostasis and altar of the Blessed Virgin and Jesus Christ in the church of St. Nicholas, which was nearby.

In January 1990, before the closed doors of the temple. Nikolai Simkaylo served the first Divine Liturgy. At the beginning of 1995, the Cathedral of the Assumption of the UGCC were returned iconostasis and the miraculous icon of the Mother of God.
