Poetto - the main and most popular beach of Cagliari. It stretches for 8 km from the Sella del Diavolo (Devil's Saddle) to the coast of Quartu Sant Elena. The same name - Poetto - is a city block, located on the western tip between the beach and Saline di Molentardzhius.

Perhaps the name of the beach comes from the Aragonese Tower of Poets - Torre del Poetto, which is still visible above the Sella del Diavolo. According to another version, called "Poetto" comes from the Catalan word "pouet" - well, and recalls the numerous wells rsseyannyh on the territory of the Sella del Diavolo to collect rainwater.

Up until the early 20th century Poetto was not particularly popular among the inhabitants of Cagliari, who preferred to rest on the west coast of the Gulf - on the beaches of Ca Perdiksedda a Giorgino. Only in the 1920s Poetto white sand dunes have been recognized, and there were built the first kurornye zone (Lido D'Akvila), bars and even a hospital (Ospedale Marino). Then there were the first "kazotti" - colorful wooden structures, which are a cross between cabanas and sea hut. Unfortunately, in 1986 all kazotti were demolished for safety reasons. Kazotti destruction, a huge number of tourists and lack of erosion has led to the fact that in the 1990s, has undergone Poetto coastline erosion.

In 2002, the year in order to prevent the disappearance of the beach, was organized by the Campaign for land reclamation sand from the sea floor was dried and poured onto the beach. Unfortunately, the result was not quite as expected - instead of fine white sand of Poetto were filled with sand completely different color and consistency.

Despite this Poetto it remains a favorite place of recreation for residents and visitors to Cagliari. From June to September there are the musical groups, held an open-air disco, dance shows, etc. There is also beach volleyball, football and Soccer.
