Calamosca - one of the most popular beaches of Cagliari, located about 4 km from the historic city center. The beach stretches in the middle of a small bay and is bounded on the west ridge of rocks and the hill from the east of Sant Elia (Hill refers to the urban neighborhoods of San Bartolomeo).

In the vicinity, on the hill of Sant Elia, stands the Torre di Calamosca, built in the 17th century as part of a defense system to protect the Gulf of Cagliari from pirate attacks. Gromada towers and standing next to the lighthouse dominates the beach of Calamosca. Today the complex is owned by the Navy of Italy.

The cylindrical tower Torre di Calamosca was built in 1638, the year, as evidenced by a plaque on the outside wall with the arms of the Spanish King. Its construction was part of the project to create a defense system of Sardinia, designed by the Spanish, under which these towers were built along the coast of the island. Torre di Calamosca in the past called the Torre de Armas - Armory since it was equipped with powerful guns, or Torre dei Senja - the signal for the system by which the tower could communicate with Castello in Cagliari. During the attack the French fleet 1793rd year, is the tower played a decisive role in the defense of the city. In the mid-19th century Torre di Calamosca was raised with the help of the superstructure of the cylindrical body, and was built next to the lighthouse.

In the vicinity of the hill you can see Sant Elia several natural attractions in the first place - Cape Sella del Diavolo (Devil's Saddle), a small beach of Cala Figuera and the high steep cliffs.
