Construction of the Church of the Virgin Mary in the early Gothic style was started by King Bela IV (1255- 1269). This period is its northern bell tower. When Lajos I the Great South Gate were built, the so-called Gate of Mary, later, with Sigismund and Matthias, who twice married in this church (which is why the church is often called Matthias Church.) Was added to the southern tower with a coat of arms depicting a raven. In Turkish times it was used as a mosque.

The frescoes in the Church of Matthias made Bertalanom székelys and Károly Lotz. In the chapel of Loreto is legendary marble sculpture of the Madonna of the XVI century. In the chapel of the Holy Trinity in 1862 the sarcophagus richly decorated were buried Béla III and his wife Anne of Chatillon, found in 1848 in Székesfehérvár. At the bottom of the church and in the gallery you can see exhibits that introduce the religious art. The excellent acoustics of the church and often hosts organ concerts.
