Not far from the city of Bournemouth in the south-west of the UK is an old church Christchurch (Church of Christ). The very first church existed on this site as far back as 800 AD Then there arose a small abbey in the XI century began construction of a new church. From this church linked to many legends. In particular, it is said that the original church began to build on the hill of St. Catherine, but for one night all building materials have been miraculously transferred to the place where is now the church. Another legend has it that the construction under the guise of an ordinary carpenter participated Jesus Christ himself, who miraculously lengthened too short trimmed timber. After that the church was called the Church of Christ. Later the name was transferred to the Abbey and the whole town.
Church completed and rebuilt until the middle of the XVI century. It survived carved wooden Misericordia - small protrusions-seat, on which the monks could sit quietly during the long service. The abbey was dissolved in 1539, but remained as a parish church.
She is still active, it conducted the service. In 1999, in honor of the 900th anniversary of the abbey church were installed a new organ and stained-glass window.
