It is known that in the second half of the 19th century, the town of Borovichi was quite developed in terms of infrastructure and the industrial city compared to other cities: paper factory, a factory for the production of iron pyrites, spirtoochistitelny plant, for the production of leather products, manufacture of explosives and more .  The city was largely developed on the part of refractory bricks, for which reason the city is located near the reserves of special high quality clay .  At that time it was built the necessary branch Okulovka-Borovichi, but soon it was decided to extend it to the city of Cherepovets, although the idea has not been implemented .  There is a situation that the city was not completely durable permanent bridge which would pass through rapids and fast river Mstu .  In summer, the builders simply have imposed a temporary wooden bridge, and in winter ice crossing worked .  In the off-season the river carrying everything you need only one ferry, so it is always at the crossing appeared long lines, which often led to conflicts and even fights .

In the middle of 1871 it took place the establishment of Borovichi city council issue of the construction of the bridge across the river. This process took quite a long period of time, because the funds are not needed to build the bridge a lot. Several times attempts were made to collect donations; the city authorities have tried to impose taxes on all that is possible, because what followed inevitable wave of protests among the urban population, as well as its resistance to an attempt of the authorities "to make money." The situation came to the fact that the government tried to introduce a special tax relating to the yard dogs, so discouraged home one night literally strangled innocent animals. As a result of all the processes and operations required sum of money was still found.

In 1893, the City Council of the city Borovichi asked about the design of the new bridge to one of the most successful and market-leading companies are bridge builders, namely, an experienced professor at the Institute of Railways Nikolai Apollonovich Belelyubsky .  The most important thing was to reduce the costs to a minimum .  Soon, the company introduced to the three projects - the cheapest, although somewhat outdated .  There was also a draft of modern beautiful arched bridge .  The scientist proposed to create trehsharnirny, single-span bridge arch downward, the prototype of which was the bridge across the River Rhine in Germany .  Soon he was a special project, and construction of the bridge started yet .  Piling and foundation engaged in the erection of metal Moscow Plant .  In October 1902, he was served a prayer service at the beginning of works .  But there was a failure: the pile located on the left bank were unable to break through the layer of gravel and scrap .  Capital began to decline .  Yet the right solution has been chosen, and the bridge was fixed . 

In early February 1905 the structure of the bridge has been issued, and it was fixed on the supports. A few days later began to be carried out necessary tests, and soon the bridge was finally opened. The opening day was held a celebration that lasted until night. Many citizens congratulated each other with such a significant day in the life of the city, and expressed its sincere gratitude to Professor Belelyubsky, chief engineer and head of the project Pshenitsky City Council Shulgin. Only the new bridge has not been given the name, although attempts have been made to name the bridge "Alexander" in honor of Emperor Alexander I, but the name did not stick, and very soon it was simply forgotten.
