Parliament Square in Bordeaux in 1952 was declared a historical monument. Its present name she received at the end of the XVIII century - in honor of the parliament of Bordeaux, which was established in the middle of the XV century by Charles VII, and its activity was discontinued in 1790.
The area was built very close to the Stock Exchange in 1760 and the very beginning of its history the area was called the Royal Market. The French Revolution and the subsequent wave of renaming the square was given a new name - it became known as Freedom Square, soon there was another, this time the last name change. Himself highest court of Bordeaux met in the palace Ombrier.
The decoration of the square is set in its center a fountain, also named in honor of the parliament. The initiator of the installation was the mayor of Guillaume André brochon, author of the project - the architect Louis Garros. It is worth noting that during the management of Mr. brochon Bordeaux, the city has held many restoration works already existing historical monuments (such as the Cathedral of St. Andrew), and there were new buildings, adorned Bordeaux (the fountain in the Plaza of the Three Graces Stock Exchange).
The opening of the fountain, created in the style of a "new Renaissance" was held in 1865. The pedestal of the fountain decorated with figures of nymphs and mascarons (sculptural images of a human or animal head front view). The base of the fountain is built of limestone slabs covered with gold leaf.
Parliament Square is surrounded by mansions that were built in the first half of the XVIII century. Their facades are also decorated mascarons and other decoration - wrought-iron railings and moldings.
