Berane - the administrative center of the municipality, located in the north-east of the country. Today, Berane - a popular tourist center, attracting a modern look and plenty of greenery. In addition, in the city are ancient monuments of culture and religion in Montenegro. Other points of important historical monuments can be mentioned the remains of settlements and Budimli Bihor.

Monastery of St. George (the full title - Dzhurdzhevi Stupovi, that Russian is literally translated as "Georgieva tower") is located on the outskirts of Berane, two kilometers from the city. Monastery was erected in 1213 hospodar Budimlya - Stephen Pervoslavom. It is believed that the frescoes of the abbey church was carried out during the life of King Dusan.

The temple has long been subjected to devastating attacks by the Ottoman Empire, the structure of his story was burnt and again rebuilt about five times. The beginning of XX century marked the reconstruction of the monastery complex, however, during the First World War he was again devastated, this time the Austrian army, which has transformed cells in the stables, and then to the barracks and dining.

Fully monastery was restored in 1925. Since 1927 the monastery is decorated with the new church bell, the iconostasis. Since 2001, the monastery is the episcopal diocese budimlyansko-Niksic. The decision to establish a chair of the Council of Bishops took the orthodox Serbian Church.

The architecture of the monastery church belongs to the western Romanesque style: an oval base single-nave building with side entrance hall, as well as the porch.

Since 1979, the monastery of St. George's for the recognition of UNESCO included in the World Heritage List of humanity.
