In the XII century in Arles was built a monastery of the Order of Dominican Friars. At the end of the XV century in its ensemble appeared church. To date, most of the buildings of the monastery has not been preserved, but the church building is the largest building in the Gothic style of Arles. Temple called the Church of the Friars Preachers. He stands on the embankment of the river Rhone near the bridge Tranketay and the Cathedral.
Construction of the church was completed in 1484. Used for the construction of gray stone on either side of the main building of the temple two chapels have been erected, and the stained-glass windows of the church were decorated with paintings of colored glass. The building of the church is partially covered by later buildings, but the facade in the style of "Flamboyant Gothic" was preserved almost in its original form. Its eastern part is divided into two high tower.
Dominican monastery, part of which is the church was destroyed and rebuilt in the XIV century. During the Great French Revolution, the church suffered the fate of many sacred buildings - it was adapted into a warehouse. Part of the monastery buildings were demolished to make room for the construction of hydropower plants. In the 80 years of the last century, the Church became the owner of the municipality. At the initiative of the authorities here were excavated burial temple, during which opened the floor of the church and the restoration - in particular, "redecorating" experienced sculpture XVI - XVII centuries.
