The history of the monument to Christ the Redeemer of the Andes has its origins in the late 19th century, during the period of military confrontation between Argentina and Chile. We tried to solve the issue through peaceful negotiations, and one of the proposals was the creation of the statue of Christ the Redeemer, as a symbol of peace and prosperity. The proposal was accepted. Statue decided to set on the border between the two countries on the slopes of the Andes.

The monument was created by sculptor Mateo Alonso Brazil. Sculpture is a six-meter granite pedestal and set it on a statue of Christ the height of about 7 meters. In one hand he had a cross, and the other two, he blesses people. The material for the creation of the statues was the old weapons left Argentina after the war of independence against the Spanish invaders.

Despite the fact that the statue placed in a deserted place, gathered for the opening of a few thousand residents of Argentina and Chile. Lavish ceremony opened not only a monument, but a few commemorative plaques, which are still close by.

Several times Christ the Redeemer statue suffered from bad weather and seismic activity typical of the region. It was restored and rebuilt the individual elements.

Each day, look at the sculpture attracts many tourists from around the world.

Recently, the monument of Christ the Redeemer hundred years old, but he still is a symbol of peace and understanding. On the pedestal bears the inscription, which reads: "Most of these mountains will turn into dust than Argentines and Chileans break the peace, who have vowed to save at the feet of Christ the Redeemer."
