One of the most interesting estates Aachen - Gut Kalkofen - has been known since time immemorial. Construction of the estate dates from the 14th century. Its first owner was the mayor of Aachen Arnold von Kalkofen - hence the name, secured the estate for centuries. Then, the following buildings are lost in history, and the following references can be found in the marriage contract of Adam von Haren and Frau Agnes von Weyer 15th century.
As almost always in private hands, the manor has survived to our times in spite of the war and destruction. Today, as a few centuries ago, it is a complex of buildings, which was built is surrounded by meadows. The first time the estate was rebuilt and, accordingly, has become interesting from an architectural point of view as far back as 1750. The author of the project was the famous architect Johann Joseph Kuveni.
The estate was built in the best traditions of the Romanesque buildings, but its original tower and courtyard give it charm today. Among the most important elements can be distinguished round tower that combines southern and eastern wing: massive construction smoothes different styles and is a kind of hallmark of the entire estate.
In the early 20th century, the manor was a beautiful garden, which certainly added to her beauty. However, during the Second World War the building suffered greatly and demanded the restoration. In 1956 the estate was closed, and up until 1983 it was disappointing fate. But the reconstruction, which began in 1983 and ended in 1989, returned to Aachen Gut Kalkofen, and today this tourist attraction and happy tourists and townspeople.
