Covered market is at the center of the town of Yambol. The market building was built in 1509-1510 years, at present it is the only surviving from the time of the Ottoman Empire building in the city. The market is one of the most massive buildings in the city of Yambol.
Chronicler and traveler Evliya Çelebi visited the city in 1667 and later wrote about the place of the market in the economic life and architecture of Yambol following: "In it there is solidly built market hall with four iron gates. Such revitalization and so well decorated with no place in any other country. All the valuable things in it are in abundance and are sold for a pittance ... "
The roof of the market had a hemispherical dome and trimmed the lead sheet. In 1878, Bulgaria freed itself from the Turkish yoke. A few years after this momentous event lead cladding was replaced by tiles, and even later, 50 years later, made a tin roof.
Over the 1877-1878 period (the period of the Russian-Turkish war) Yambol was one of the most important points of the rear, where there were no Turks. During this time the indoor market served as a warehouse of supplies.
Initially, the building of the market was established 12 vaulted shops on both sides of the walls, arches were decorated with painted yellow flowers with blue leaves. In these shops were located 32 merchant, their places were separated by partitions of wood. In 1927 he was made a partial internal restructuring, and to the main building of the market were added to additional rooms. Through this place it has become a center of trade and crafts. In the years 1970-1973 was carried out restoration of the building according to the original form of the market, as it has been adapted for use in a modern city. Since 1972, the Market Hall Yambol declared a cultural monument.
