Martha was a rich and powerful figure in Novgorod in the late 15th century. During the standoff between Moscow and Novgorod it rallied around him Novgorod boyars. In 1478, when Novgorod was annexed to Muscovy, Martha was shackled and sent into exile by Msta. Its further fate is unknown: perhaps she was killed near Mlevo, and she died in exile and was imprisoned in a monastery Mlevsky.
