Cathedral of the Assumption is in perforation on the left bank of the Volga. Its history is closely intertwined with the history of the city. In 1692 a gentleman Maxim Tsyzyrev erected a wooden church. And in 1801, in its place was built a stone church, which has survived to our time. Its construction Empress was allocated 7,000 rubles.

The church had three altars in the church year - the Assumption of the Mother of God, in the winter - St. Mary Magdalene and St. Alexander Nevsky. By Assumption Cathedral also applies Kazan cemetery church, built in 1788 to the throne of Our Lady of Kazan.

During the violent repression against the Church of the Assumption Cathedral it was closed and used for the warehouse and prisons. The fate of the church in the Great Patriotic War remained contradictory information. According to some sources, the Nazis made a stable out of the temple, and on the other - here the Germans rounded up the people in the church services.

When the city Jags was released by the Soviet troops, the priest Vasily Znamensky, who began his liturgical work before the revolution, made the official opening of the temple. Father Vasily graduated from the seminary in the Caucasus and in the same year he studied with Joseph Stalin. He sent a letter to Stalin in which he asked a classmate to solve Zubtsov performed in temple worship. The temple at the time was used as a garrison building. Please Father Basil was granted. After that, the Assumption Church for a long time was the only existing temple in the county. These were believers even from neighboring Rzhev.

In the early 21 century, the temple was still the only one in Zubtsov area. Only recently opened a temple in Pogorelov Mound, and in the city center Zubtsova about the route Moscow - Riga, built a chapel in honor of St. Nicholas.

The most revered shrine in the church is the icon of righteous and Mary Magdalene Alexander Nevsky.
