Wide fame and glory brought not Taganrog sea port or a decree of the empress, and the son of a merchant of Chekhov, who later became recognized as a Russian writer - Anton Chekhov. Walking on Taganrog, literally on every street there are places and objects related to the life and work of Anton Chekhov, or with the characters of his works, indeed, there is "every stone Chekhov knows." The city, which glorified his native, honors the memory of the famous writer, the name of Chekhov looks with names of streets, museums, monuments and gardens.
Monument APChehovu is close to the house-museum "Chekhov's house." It is made in the form of a bronze sculpture of a young writer, sitting on a rock with a book. The monument is pretty impressive size, the height of the bronze sculpture - three meters plus a pedestal of granite Mytishchi - more than three meters high! Monument - the fruit of joint work by sculptor Julian Mitrofanovich Rukavishnikov and architect GA Zakharova - was delivered in late January 1960, although the first decision on the installation of the monument to the outstanding writer in his homeland was adopted 50 years earlier - in 1910. Then he began to raise funds for its construction. The second decision was in 1935, and the third - in 1944. In the same 1944 on Red Square in Taganrog was opened APChehovu bust, it was a bronze copy of the established in 1935 in the courtyard of the Museum "House of Chekhov's" plaster bust of the writer's work V.G.Morozovoy sculptor.
The current monument APChehovu since 1960 is located in the park Chekhov (previously - Alexander Square), an area of about 1, 5 hectares. Square appeared in Taganrog in the year of the 75th anniversary of Anton Chekhov, renovated and landscaped after World War II and still pleases residents of Taganrog cozy benches, spacious lawns and shady green trees. In 2008, it was carried out major work on the restoration and reconstruction of the monument park.
