Kokalyansky monastery is located near the village of Kokalyane, east of Mount Plan. Included in the number of cultural monuments in Bulgaria.

Patron of the monastery is St. Michael the Archangel. Once the monastery was linked by road to Bistrishskim, Boyana and Dragalevtsi monasteries. Also near the monastery was built Kokalyanskogo Urvich fortress - one of the few strongholds of Bulgaria, who stood in the fight against the Ottoman invaders.

They founded a monastery in the era of the Second Bulgarian Empire, but with the arrival of the Turks, the monastery was destroyed. Recovery began only in the XIV century. From that moment until the XIX century, the holy abode has repeatedly been the ruin.

In 1898, the ensemble of the monastery complex, a new church. Since then it survived a slab of stone engraved with an inscription. Today the monastery complex consists of a renewed church, business and residential buildings, the bell tower (built in 2000) and two chapels - Saint Ivan Rilski and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin.

The monastery houses a legendary Kokalyanskom Kokalyansky collection of the XVI century, a relic associated with the reign of the last king of the Bulgarian Middle Ages - Ivan Shishman.

Church festival at the monastery just two: August 15, held the celebration of the Holy Virgin, and November 8 - day Saint. Archangel Michael.
