In the town of Skiathos on the same island is a house-museum of the famous Greek writer, one of the best representatives of Modern Greek Literature Alexandros Papadiamantisa (1851-1911).
Unfortunately, the house where he was born the great novelist, has not been preserved to our days, as it was sold and the new owners demolished it. Alexandros Papadiamantis grew up and died in the new house of his father (which reads a plaque on the wall of a building), which was built in 1860. After the death of the famous writer Greek Ministry of Culture declared the house an important cultural monument. In 1954 the building was purchased by the state and since then belongs to the municipality of Skiathos. Here and now is the house-museum of Alexandros Papadiamantisa dedicated to the life and work of an outstanding writer.
A small two-story museum building is located about 100 meters from the east coast city on the narrow street. The house is a typical example of local architecture, and clearly reflects the traditional style and character of the development of the island. On the left side of the entrance is the living room with a fireplace, where Papadiamantis spent the last moments of his life in the winter 1911. To the right is a small room, where the father of the writer, a priest, kept their books and vestments. Later it was owned by Alexandros and was used as a bedroom and study. Furnishing (original furniture and other household items) in these areas preserved during the life of the writer. On the ground floor there is an exhibition hall where the manuscripts, documents, photos and more.
House-Museum of Alexandros Papadiamantisa - one of the main attractions of Skiathos and is quite popular with tourists.
