Church of San Pedro de Atacama is located in the area of the same city of the same name. It is an important architectural landmark and one of the oldest churches in the country.

There are documents showing that in 1557 this place was a chapel, which served as a priest of Don Cristobal Diaz de los Santos. The current church was built on the site of the chapel, dating from the 1745 year. With 41 m in length and 7, 5 meters wide, the church of San Pedro de Atacama resembles a huge ship miraculously found myself in the Atacama Desert. The church - a spacious nave, transept and graceful archways. The altar of the church, probably the only one of its kind in Chile, a Baroque-style columns and is divided into three parts with niches.

To the west of the church was a bell tower with four bells, built in 1782. But in 1860 the tower was destroyed. At the end of the XIX century on the site it was erected a wooden bell tower, which was replaced with a stone in 1964, during another reconstruction of the church.

The main material that was used in the construction of the church - a stone and limestone. Altar and arches carved from stone. The roof is covered with straw, and the walls are plastered with lime mortar.

Church of San Pedro the Atacama has been declared a national monument of Chile in 1951.
