The most green and quiet area of Ostrava is located in the west of the city and called Poruba. There are no factories that pollute the air, so it is considered very prestigious. Local real estate is very expensive and can afford only the wealthy people.
Poruba was connected to the Ostrava only in the middle of the last century. Until 1957 it was a separate village with its rich history. The name of the village was probably the profession of the people who lived here. Classes locals were associated with deforestation.
Settlement Poruba appeared much earlier than the time when we first meet mention of it in the Czech written sources. In 1377 it was already a rich village, located on the state border and is owned by aristocrats Trzhibovichey. Settlement is constantly changing its owners, who have paid due attention to the various historical buildings, still adorn the local streets. These include the local castle, built in 1573 as the residence of the wealthy nobility and the church of St. Nicholas - is not very big and majestic, but nevertheless served as a parish church for the faithful from several surrounding towns. Also here you can visit the historic water mill, which is perfectly preserved from the past centuries, and the plant I. Blazhela, which makes beautiful furniture.
Walking streets chop, do not miss the unusual natural monument, which is a powerful boulder that remained with the Ice Age. Locals call it "the prodigal fool." He is now considered to be part of the memorial dedicated to those who died in the years 1940-1945.
