Memorial "Thunder" is dedicated to the participation of the Polish Navy during World War II in the Battle of Narvik in 1940. At that time, Poland has been invaded by German troops. Polish sailors took the risk and sacrificed their lives in an attempt to preserve the independence of Norway. Norway, however, suffered the same fate as that of Poland.

The destroyer "Thunder" was the lead ship of the Polish Navy. The destroyer was commissioned in 1937. and it was intended for the defense of the coasts, and convoy escort.

During the hostilities, "Thunder" has become the most hated by the German navy ship. However, as a result of the bombing of May 4, 1940 destroyer hull was divided into two parts, and the ship sank almost at the same moment, taking with him to the bottom of 59 sailors.
