Manila theater "Metropolitan» (The Manila Metropolitan Theatre) was built in 1930 by architect Juan Arellano. The building, made in the Art Deco style, can seat 1670 spectators (846 in the stalls, 116 and 708 in the box on the balcony). During the legendary Battle of Manila in 1945, the theater was seriously damaged part of the roof and walls were bombed. Then, after the reconstruction, which was carried Americans, the building was empty for a long time and not subjected to proper care. Only in 1978 it was again thoroughly renovated, but, unfortunately, once again proved irrelevant. Recently, at the rear of the theater were built bus stop and parking, and the administration of Manila, with the support of the National Committee on the Arts and Culture has completed the development of a plan to revive the theater.
Sculptures installed in the front of the building - is the creation of Italian sculpture Francesco Riccardo Monti, who lived in Manila from 1930 until his death in 1958. He worked closely with Juan Arellano. The walls of the hall and the interior of the theater is decorated with a stylized relief ornaments Philippine plants by artist Isabelle Tampingko. In 2010, Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim inaugurated the building of the theater after the next phase of the restoration work. The theater "Metropolitan" is located on Padre Burgos Avenue, near the Central Post Office Manila.
