Cultural Center of the Philippines is located in an area of ​​Manila, Pasay City, which is included in the Manila agglomeration. The center was opened in 1969 on the initiative of President Ferdinand Marcos for the promotion and preservation of art and culture of the Filipino people, it was conceived as a kind of cultural Mecca of Asia. Since the opening of the Centre on the scene were the Bolshoi and the Kirov Ballet of Russia, the Royal Danish Theatre, as well as teams from America, France, Germany and different cities of the Philippines. Today, the Cultural Centre is a demonstration of the achievements of Philippine art, inspiring the creation of works of art by traditional motifs, as well as helping to make art accessible to all segments of the population. A major role in the Centre's activities is the work on the creation and support of regional cultural centers. Its staff conduct seminars, workshops, exhibitions, symposia and other educational activities.

The main building of the Centre, built on the shores of Manila Bay, also known as "Tangalang Pambansa", was designed by the leading architect of the country's Leandro Loksinom. There are 4 theatrical scene, a museum with ethnographic collections and changing exhibitions, dedicated to Philippine art, exhibition galleries and a library on the art and culture of the Philippines.

In 2005 the building was renovated in anticipation of the 112th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which was held in Manila. The facade was cleaned and replaced with marble decorations in Italian travertine. They also renovated the main fountain and an artificial lake in front of the building, installed air conditioning system and new carpet. Surrounding the center garden of 88 hectares has been substantially updated.

Main Theater Center is named after the singer Nicanor Abelardo, who gave new life to the genre of "kundiman" - a traditional Filipino love songs. Capacity Theater - 1823 human. In the coming years within the Cultural Center of the Philippines will be carried out extensive work to expand its territory and functions .  It is planned to divide the present territory into 5 clusters .  The first cluster will focus souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants, built visitor center and the ferry dock for guests arriving on boats and yachts .  It also will house the Museum of Modern Art .  The second cluster, "Preserve the Arts", will be entirely devoted to the art, his "heart" will be the current main building of the Centre .  The third cluster, connect the other with other platforms .  On its territory will house a hall for up to 8000 people, which can be used for different purposes, Asian Music Gallery, the Museum of National Artists and two small art center .  The fourth cluster will be built living quarters for visiting artists, as well as transportation .  There will also be a museum of Design, dancing fountains and sculptures .  Finally, in the fifth cluster will be accommodation and shopping area .  It is planned that all these innovations will be completed by 2014 .
