Shipwreck Museum is located on the territory of the Kyrenia castle that once protected the city from invaders. In this small museum you can see the body of an old sailing ship, which was discovered in 1969 by the Americans on the seabed off the coast of Kyrenia, at a depth of 30 meters. The ship was in surprisingly good condition, despite the fact that had been in the water for more than two millennia.

The ship was built around the beginning of the IV century BC. e., in the time of Alexander the Great, and had a length of about 15 meters. Scientists came to the conclusion that it sank in about 288-262 years BC, sailed for more than a hundred years. The ship sank, according to historians, after the attacks of pirates, as the board has not been found any remains of the team, no valuable cargo. All that was found on the wreck, so it's a large number of amphorae filled with almonds, a variety of everyday objects, such as tableware, as well as millstones that were the ship's ballast.

In addition, the 2300-year-old ancient ship, which is currently considered the oldest in the world, in the shipwreck museum to the visitors and presented as pictures, which depicted the process of study and place of death of the vessel is shown as it rises to the surface.

Unfortunately, the museum is sorely lacking funding to ensure proper storage conditions such valuable items. But despite all the problems, it is very popular among tourists.
