Alexander's tomb - Aleksandrovo village landmark. Distance Haskovo - about 20 kilometers to the east. This Thracian tomb was opened by the Bulgarian archaeologist Georgi Kitov in 2001. In the same year there were conducted excavations of an ancient burial mound "Roshavata chuka."
Building tombs scientists refer to the second half of IV century BC, after which it became the last refuge for the eminent Thracian ruler, whose name had remained unclear.
The height of the mound mound "Roshavata Chuka" is 15 meters, while its diameter - more than 70 meters. Tomb of fifteen has a corridor, the entrance to which is located on the east side. The corridor comes to a rectangular chamber, followed by a high round camera. Its bell-shaped arch starts from the floor. At the southern edge of the stone bed was located, was destroyed in antiquity.
Presumably, the tomb was used twice. Evidence of this is the presence of the second level directly in the floor vaulted circular chambers. Single Level - blocks of stone, the other - packed clay.
Relatively well preserved unique mural painting, no less impressive architecture of the tombs. Moreover, they are arranged over the entire area of the tomb and combined topical composition. The circular chamber is decorated with the most diverse - here frescoes cover six horizontal belts, differing in width. Most of the frescoes is a hunting scene.
Since 2009, close to the tomb of a Thracian art museum works, the only one in the Eastern Rhodopes. Funds for its establishment have been isolated by the Japanese government. At the opening of the museum complex was attended by Prince Akishino himself Japanese and the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov. The main object in the museum is considered to be a replica of the tomb of Alexander found that, unlike the original, free and open to tourists.
