In the heart of Galway, on the corner of Ebbigeyt Street and Shop Street is one of the oldest and most remarkable buildings of the city. It Linh Castle - one of the best examples of the city's castle in the country. Urban castles - it's residential buildings are very popular among the wealthy merchants in Ireland in the XV-XVI centuries. This castle dates from the period and Linh. The exact date of construction is unknown, but the entrance is carved coat of arms of Henry VII, who was King of England from 1484 to 1509 years.
The imposing limestone building is a fine example of Irish Gothic. It is the only secular medieval building, preserved in the city. Once there lived one of the most influential families of Galway - Linh, which gave the city a few mayors.
Over the centuries, the building was reconstructed, but its appearance was unchanged and well preserved to this day. The building has four floors, in 1808 was made a vast extension. Particular attention is drawn carved stone figures adorn the castle, gargoyle on gutters, family coat of arms carved Linh and trim on some windows. On the side wall of the building is inserted into the stone on which is carved the coat of arms of Count Kildare.
Shop Street, justifying its name, is the main shopping street of Galway. This is a pedestrian street, and there are many shops, cafes and restaurants, and close to the storefronts demonstrate their skills by street musicians. What is here is one of the oldest buildings in the city, talking about how carefully people of the city are its historical heritage.
Now the building is a bank branch AIB, and on the first floor there is a small museum.
