Mount Pantocrator (from the Greek meaning "Lord Almighty") is located in the north-east of the island of Corfu. Its height is 906 meters above sea level and is the highest mountain on the island. From the top of the mountain offers breathtaking panoramic views not only on the island but also in neighboring Albania. A bright sunny days from here you can even see the Italian coastline, despite the fact that it is located on the island of Corfu at a distance of 130 km.

At the top of the mountain is a small cozy cafe for tourists, where you can relax after a climb, and after already explore the area and enjoy the spectacular panoramic views. There is also placed telecommunication towers and an ancient monastery. The first religious building was built on this site back in 1347, but in 1537 the church was destroyed for unknown reasons. Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Lord, that we see today dates from about the year 1689, although the facade of the building was built in the 19th century. In the church, you can see the magnificent frescoes.

Climb to the top of Mount Pantocrator can be both on foot and by car. There are several hiking trails, most of which are convenient to the monastery. Climbing is best to start from the village of Old Perito, which is the oldest settlement on the island and dates back to the 14th century. Walking ascent will take about two hours. When traveling by car it is worth considering that the road is very narrow and has many hairpin turns.
