In the eastern part of the Greek island of Chios in the wonderfully picturesque setting among blooming gardens, olive and almond groves is a small coastal town - Vrontados. It is located about 5 km north of the administrative center of the island of Chios Town (or Chora) and is considered its suburbs.

The settlement existed here since ancient times, although the exact date of its founding is not known reliably. According to one version, I was born here, or at least lived long famous Greek sings, author of the legendary "Iliad" and "Odyssey" - Homer. Today, one of the main attractions Vrontados is the so-called "Stone of Homer", where, according to legend, the poet taught his disciples.

Since ancient times, famous for Vrontados strong maritime tradition and is home to many well-known ship owners. However, even today most of the population Vrontados, one way or another, connected to the sea. Not surprisingly, the symbol of the city is located on the beach (right in front of the Town Hall), the statue of the "unknown sailor", made by the famous Greek sculptor Apartisom.

According to legend, the famous Spanish explorer Christopher Columbus before his legendary expedition to America specially visited Vrontados in order to obtain information from experienced local sailors and study composed of nautical charts.

Today, Vrontados - it's very cozy and beautiful town with a picturesque waterfront, the old windmills, narrow streets and literally immersed in greenery charming houses. Vrontados is famous for its magnificent temples, and among which deserve special attention Cathedral of St. George, the church of Panagia Erifiani, the yard is paved pebble mosaics and the church of St. Mark. No less interesting and the church of St. Nicholas, Panagia Evangelistria, the Prophet Elijah, and others.

Well developed tourist infrastructure, a lot of interesting places and entertainment and, of course, excellent beaches Vrontados and its surroundings every year attracts a growing number of tourists.
