Magellan's Cross - a Christian cross, set on the island of Cebu in 1521 Portuguese and Spanish sailors on the orders of Ferdinand Magellan. Himself Magellan was a Portuguese working for the King of Spain. He was the first European to set foot on the land of the Philippines. Unfortunately, here he was killed - was killed the leader of one of the local tribes in the struggle for power over the island of Mactan. Magellan ordered to install a wooden cross to commemorate a significant event - the adoption of Christianity by local Muslim Humabonom Raja, his wife and numerous soldiers.

Today, Magellan's Cross is one of the main attractions of Cebu City, the capital of the island, and its symbol on the city seal. Cross located on the street Magallanos Street in the small chapel next to the Basilica of Santo Niño, the oldest church of the Philippines, and right in front of the city administration. Brick Chapel, octagon-shaped, has been specially built to store the cross in 1834. At the foot of the cross made light candles and leave a coin.

The label is installed at the base of the cross in the center of the chapel, it says that the cross, which was brought to the island of Cebu Europeans, is inside, the wood. This was done deliberately in order to protect a historical relic from those who want to nip off a piece as a souvenir, as well as by those who believe that the particles cross the Magellan possess healing powers. However, some people believe that the original cross was destroyed or disappeared long ago, and the present - only a copy made by the Spaniards after the successful colonization of the Philippines.
