At the highest point of Cancun, between the two hotels on Boulevard Kukulcan are the ruins Yamil Luum. If you happen to be a guest of one of these hotels, some of your windows open is very picturesque view of the archaeological site, the former first land of the Maya. The name of these ancient buildings is translated from the Mayan language as "hilly land."

In XIII-XV centuries there were built two temples: the temple and the temple arms of Scorpio. The first of these artifacts mentioned in documents dating from the XVI century. Newly discovered them in 1842, archaeological work was completed only in the middle of the last century. The walls of the temple once adorned the figure of the Scorpion The Scorpion and the walls of the temple's hands were covered with prints of hands, but up to now these images have not reached. The upper part of the temple of the Scorpion is made of wood, and to this day has not been preserved. Only the floor and stone walls, deflected slightly outwardly and forming a small room. You can get inside through the opening between the columns. On one of the walls destroyed by archeologists still found a small picture of a scorpion, it determined the name of the temple. On plaster one wall of the temple arms were also found traces of the hand.

Scientists suggest that Yamil Luum was an important religious center of the Maya. It is possible that the pyramid Yamil Luuma and used as beacons because they were built on hilltops. In addition, churches informs residents about the approach of a storm. They are built in such a way that if the wind blew inside of the towers of the whole neighborhood heard reverberating whistle to warn of an impending storm.

The ruins of the ancient city are available to tourists every day, admission is free.
