French Cathedral, which is also known as the French church of Friedrichstadt, a Reformed Church and is located at the Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin. This is one of the key attractions of the capital, was built thanks to the work of Liu and Abraham Kesneya Kayyara.

This structure is called a cathedral, despite the fact that there never was located episcopal. The history of the French Church began in the XVIII century, when the Huguenots accounted for nearly a quarter of the inhabitants of Berlin. In the period from 1701 to 1705 years of construction began this majestic building, a model for which the image was taken by the time the destroyed church of Charenton-Saint-Maurice in France.

In 1785, Carl von Gontard added the domed tower of the church building, similar to the one that was at the German Cathedral. This was done deliberately in order to give the symmetrical features of the Gendarmenmarkt square, but thanks to this French architectural additions church called the Cathedral.

In 1817, the community of the church joined the Prussian evangelists than maintained its membership in Calvinism. In 1905, some changes were made in the interior of the French Cathedral, the severity of the former was replaced by a more decorative style and soft features.

During the Second World War the church suffered greatly from the devastation of its reconstruction undertaken during the 1977-1988 period. After a complete restoration of the French Cathedral in it regularly occurring meeting of the members of the German Evangelical Church. The domed tower is an observation deck, where you can appreciate the splendor of the panorama of the city of Berlin. The building of the cathedral is now a museum of the Huguenots, and a restaurant.
