Sharavsinsky caravanserai or Sharapsa Khan was built in the middle of the XIII century (in 1236-1246 years) on the Silk Road, on the initiative of Giyaseddin Keyhusreva II - the son of the Sultan Aladdin Keykubat I, with a view to joining Alanya to the Seljuk capital of Konya State. Since then, for centuries it served as a roadside inn where merchants and ordinary travelers could rest and water the horses. It is located fifteen kilometers from Alanya.
Caravanserai - in many Turkic languages means caravan house - a large public structure in Asia, in cities and on the roads in unpopulated areas, serving as shelter and parking for travelers tend to traders.
Caravanserai in Turkey are of two types: open and closed. Closed type are generally built along the paths along which the caravans passed, although they are often to be found in roadside towns. The walls are erected such that they were allowed to fend off attacks and withstand short-lived siege. They had substantially the structure in the form of a square or rectangle with an open courtyard, which was located in the middle of the well. Inside are rooms for accommodation and warehouses for goods. It is mandatory to present the corral for pack animals. There are one and two-storey caravanserais. The two-story on the second floor living quarters and the first warehouses and pens for animals.
Caravanserai, located between Konya and the southern coast, are mainly composed of a courtyard surrounded by a canopy and indoor spaces. At the endless road of Anatolia, they were as a fortress. With thick walls, similar to the walls and towers of the caravanserai was an important place for traders, travelers. The architecture of these buildings markedly influenced Christianity.
Sharapsa Khan covers an area of almost 1 hectare is closed . It all kind are also reminiscent of an old fortress . And there are reasons - because the attack on the roadside hotels robbers in those days were not uncommon . It has an unusual building plan . The walls of a rectangular courtyard, 15h71m size, made of huge stones and limestone, and are supported with props . These backups of large carved stones divide it into nine parts . The portal, located at the southern wall, reflects the characteristics of Seljuk art . Doors caravanserai framed by arches, one of which covers his roof . On one of the arch there is an inscription in Arabic that says when and by whom was built the caravanserai . A small square room in the eastern part of the building - the mosque is a caravanserai . Inside a long hall and several rooms fenced-wells . The building is quite impressive . Having stood for nearly eight centuries, it is not greatly affected by the time all the same ancient architects were skilled .
Besides that Sharapsa Khan quite well preserved, a local businessman bought it and restored the building. Today it is widely known in the Middle Ages, the inn is open as an entertainment center. There are a large number of restaurants and stalls with souvenirs, fruit and Delight. In one of these small restaurant held the show "Turkish Night". Next to the caravan is a small mosque.
