Varna Museum of Puppet Theater - a unique museum of its plan for the Balkans and one of the smallest museums in Europe. It was opened in 1985 on the initiative of the playwright Byrneva.
The exhibition includes more than 120 puppets and elements of different sets of the most successful performances, held in Varna Puppet Theatre from 1952 to 1995. Here you can see the numerous international awards the theater. The exhibition reflects the stages of not only development of set design in Bulgaria, but also the improvement in the design of puppets.
Along with traditional dolls, the museum presents puppets, dolls, masks, parsley and old "harpsichord" doll. The complex and unique mechanism of these dolls was invented over 50 years ago by George Saravanovym - founder of the Varna Puppet Theatre. They are somewhat similar to the puppets, but thanks to a special method of attachment are set in motion by pressing the keys.
Among others, the museum can be seen dolls that have been involved in such children's performances as "Pinocchio," "Sleeping Beauty" and the play based on the biblical stories. Some dolls were involved in productions for teenagers (eg, in the performance of Baron Munchausen). There are dolls that are "played" and in performances for adults: "Love, Love", "The Queen of Spades," "The Birds".
Some of the exhibits of dolls took part in the XII International Festival of Puppet Theatres in Tolosa (Spain) in 1994.
