Quarry Klaudianus Mons - a unique historical site in Egypt. They are located 44 km from the city safari, not far from the ancient Egyptian ruins - the temple of the god Serapis, the famous castle and the Roman city.

Klaudianus Mons is the largest and best preserved ancient Roman settlement in the Eastern Desert. There were about a thousand soldiers and stonecutters.

According to the circumstances it was the ancient architects and builders who worked on the construction of the monumental architectural structures, drew attention to the quarries of Mons Klaudianus. In these quarries produce natural white marble and black granite of which was erected the famous Pantheon in Rome. Obtaining high-quality granite and quartz diorite was the main occupation of the settlement. Massive granite blocks weighing 60 tons were transported in special wooden carts to the Nile. Next chunks were loaded into barges and then onto ships. It should be noted that all those who lived in the settlement Klaudianus Mons were free people of Egypt, and not slaves, as confirmed by documentary evidence found recently.

The beauties of the Roman Pantheon, do not cease to admire to this day. No wonder the ancient builders have spent so much time looking for the best material for the construction of various architectural structures. The material, as can be seen today, was quite strong, durable, and also very beautiful. Because of this, tourists can witness an amazing string of rock and preserved wall of the building blocks of the "granodiorite" (granite gray).

Today the quarry Mons Klaudianus - this is one of the main attractions of the Egyptian city of Safaga, which is certainly worth a visit.
