The garden of the Palazzo della Provinchia in Ravenna - this is one of the most unusual sights of the spa town. It is notable because it is located on the roof of the Palazzo above-mentioned, and occupies part of the crypt Rasponi.
Palazzo della Provinchia was built between 1925 and 1928 years by architect from Piacenza Giulio Ulisse Arata. The building itself is a fine example of architecture in the style of "new romanticism" with a very noticeable influence of Byzantine architecture. This is especially noticeable in the hallway at the main entrance, with its vast expanse, internal galleries and amazing mosaic made of colored wood. The Palazzo is in the same place where in the 17th century, there is another aristocratic palace - Palazzo Rasponi. The latter, in 1886 it was converted into a hotel, and in 1922 completely burned down in a fire.
The ruins of an ancient palace, including a family crypt Rasponi terraces and hanging above the street Via Santi, which connected the Palazzo with warehouse, bear traces of different architectural styles and periods. In the crypt is preserved mosaic floor, which dates from the 6th century and was once part of the Church of San Severo. Entrance arch to the hanging gardens made of marble clock face, who long ago were on the facade of the church of San Sebastiano and San Marco, and were taken out in 1783, the year.
On the territory of hanging gardens, near the crypt Rasponi at the end of the 19th century was placed in the tower of the Gothic Revival style. And that part of the garden that surrounds the fountain, more modern - it was part of a plan by architect Arata, and was designed in accordance with the canons of creating gardens in the style of the Italian Renaissance.
