Museum "Siberian elm", located in the city of Novosibirsk, is the only museum in the world of contemporary art of carving on the bark.
The grand opening of the museum took place in June 2002 in a building - a monument of architecture on the street Maxim Gorky, which was built in 1917. Today it is called "The House with the Mezzanine". Originally, the house belonged to a rich merchant after building converted into a communal apartment. The museum fund is constantly replenished, so in 2004 the museum was given the additional space almost in the center of the street Sverdlov. The museum, which is available in seven spacious halls, the audience could see a unique collection, consisting of more than 400 exhibits of arts and crafts made of birch bark, works of folk artists and professional artists of Siberia. In the works of artists of Siberia on birch bark, other than the ancient household traditions, reflected a new look at the possibility of using birch bark in the modern arts and crafts.
The museum exhibition presents works of art birchbark 35 professional folk artists and artists from Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Kemerovo, Perm, Berdsk, Tomsk, Prokopyevsk, Khanty-Mansiysk, the Altai, the Mariinsky, and others.
The main objective of the museum is the development and strengthening of the cultural traditions of Russian and Siberian peoples, the formation of the fund works by contemporary artists and masters of Siberia, as well as the study and promotion of arts and crafts.
The museum "The Siberian elm" runs a souvenir shop where you can buy various souvenirs, gifts and original works made by modern masters in the style of Russian folk art.
