Charles Fountain, which everyone can see the central square of Aachen, depicts the emperor Charlemagne. The statue dates from the year 1620, but according to legend, it was brought to Aachen from Belgium, where she performed the famous sculptor Johann Joseph Kuveni. Two years later, in the fountain added bronze sculptures of fish, and later was made special cranes, of which citizens could draw water. In 1792, a statue made a trip to Paris and became a trophy of the French in the war, but thanks to the efforts of the mayor of Aachen Johann Gottfried Wilhelm in 1804, residents of the city once again saw its usual place. The statue was "fortunate" - it is not damaged during the war, who did not spare many monuments in Germany in the 20th century. Since 1969, the real statue stands in the Town Hall premises, and for the fountain of Charles made it an exact copy.
A large bronze bowl of the fountain is located above the stone pool, which also has its own small pieces and Carl habitually dominates the area, all looking their eyes. The flourishing of Aachen associated with it, with the Emperor Charlemagne, who not only built the most remarkable monuments of the city, but also turned the city into a well-known European resort.
Charles Fountain - just one of the many fountains, which is famous for the town, but it is certainly perfectly inscribed in the composition of mercy and continues the gothic style town hall.
